THE HEALING & EVOLUTION OF LILITH

THE WORLD IS YOUR ORACLE

As the ascension process gains momentum, an increasing number of archetypes - whether they are mythological, planetary, constellations etc. are coming to the surface - as these too are ascending.

This is true especially for “malefic” energies - as these energies are seeking completion, integration and healing.

This is certainly true for Lilith. Certain aspects of her have indeed already healed & this is reflected in fact that her image has undergone a change and we see her a symbol of empowerment.

But parts of her story are still shrouded in darkness & I believe these parts are now coming up for healing.

Speaking of ascension, more & more people are waking up to the fact that we live in a conscious, rather chatty universe that’s connecting us to other realms (or our higher self) through repeating angel numbers, feathers, dreams or cledons.

These signs can come in unexpectedly or even through setting intentions.

It was with this in mind that on a lazy Saturday morning, even before I got out of bed I set the intention to look for a sign or a message from the universe in the clouds when I looked out of the window.

To my disappointment, there was not even a single cloud in the sky. Oh well, the universe apparently didn’t want to speak to me today.

I shrugged and was about to turn my back towards the window, when I saw something that left me …horrified.

Blood stains on my window.

Lilith was here (I just didn’t know it yet).

It’s true what they say about Lilith - she shows up in mysterious ways when you least expect it.

I stood there frozen, fearful & puzzled all at once.

Here I was expecting to find unicorns & roses amongst the clouds but instead to find ominous blood stains, felt like the ultimate betrayal.

WTH universe!!

Anyway, my rational mind quickly kicked in.

I stay on the top most floor of a high rise condo and the stains could likely be attributed to eagles that sleep atop my apartment roof.
It wasn’t uncommon to find feathers outside of my window, but to find stains - this was a first.

More so because I saw those of all days on the day I’d asked for a sign.

But anyway, I decided to say a prayer for protection & let it go.
A few days prior to this incident I’d attended a webinar on the mythology of Lilith by  Kelley Hunter (who's amazing!), who has authored several books on Lilith.

Following the webinar, I had an unexpected but fortuitous email exchange with Kelley who helped me correctly place the many facets of Lilith in by birth chart.

In hindsight, I think the exchange with Kelley activated something within me as just a few days later I found myself getting increasingly curious about Lilith.

I started to actively seek out more material on her - talks, articles etc. and also started to get insights or “downloads” as they are called.

It was at this time that Lilith's connection with serpents & large birds like the owl & the eagle really sunk in.

And that’s when it struck me - the blood stains I’d seen on my window.. the day I asked for a sign, was indeed a sign...

A sign from Lilith.

The rest of the material I cover today is a combination of research on Lilith & following intuitive bread crumbs.

THE VARIOUS FACETS OF LILITH

Through research I realized that Lilith makes an appearance in various cultures, across time & in a myriad of forms - from being an evil mother to a demon, to a demon that preys on infants, pregnant women, children, and even men.

She wants them all!

In recent years though, Lilith’s image has undergone a massive transformation - from a demon to a patriarchy defying force.

This is attributable in part to the story of Lilith as Adam’s first wife who refuses to be subservient to him, as she’s his equal.

This transformation in our perception of Lilith is in sync with the rise of the divine feminine in our psyche, everyday living & in our spirituality.

But I also believe that the feminist, equality demanding, powerful Lilith, is her fully evolved version.

And to get to her we must shine a light on her dark side, on her shadow side, which lurks in her stories where she’s portrayed as a demon.

Also, it’s quite possible that though her mythology is multi faceted or even fragmented, the different facets of Lilith & her stories are inextricably linked.

For example, as we’ll see later, Marilyn Monroe’s birth chart has pretty strong Lilith placements and we do remember her as a feminist icon - that’s one side of Lilith.

However, upon delving a little deeper, we realize that her childhood was fraught with suffering - a childhood robbed of love & security by the child stealing Lilith one might say.

And so I’d like to focus on the story of Lilith as the demon that preys on pregnant women, infants & children as I believe that this is the side of her that’s now seeking healing & integration.

But before that let's briefly take a look at her astrology.

THE ASTROLOGY

In astrology, Lilith appears as:

Black Moon Lilith : a mathematical point in the moon’s orbit
Dark Moon Lilith: the very mysterious “second moon”
Asteroid Lilith
Fixed Star Lilith

Black Moon Lilith (a mathematical point)
Black Moon Lilith is not a physical celestial body but rather a mathematical point in space. It represents the point in the Moon’s orbit that is farthest from the Earth. And so in this regard it is symbolic of Lilith fleeing or being cast out of the “Garden of Eden”.

The movement of Black Moon Lilith is very erratic to the point if we were to actually track its movement across the sky, it would look pretty much like a serpent!

It’s due to this rather unpredictable & erratic nature that there are two main ways to measure its position:
Mean Black Moon Lilith (h12): A smoothed-out, averaged calculation of Lilith’s movement over time.

True/Oscillating Black Moon Lilith (h13): A more dynamic and fluctuating measurement, capturing the erratic and  wild nature of Lilith’s energy in real time.

The true version (h13) is often seen as a more accurate reflection of her unpredictable nature.

Dark Moon Lilith (h58)
The Dark Moon Lilith is a mysterious "second Moon" that’s been spotted by some but for the most part has been dismissed as an optical illusion—a cloud of dust mistaken for a lunar body.

Some believe that Dark Moon Lilith exists in another dimension, awaiting the right moment to reveal herself.

Others speculate that she is the fragmented remains of a lost celestial body.

All very mysterious and unfathomable, much like Lilith.

Asteroid Lilith (1181)
Lilith is also the name of an actual asteroid—Asteroid 1181—discovered in the 1920s. This asteroid resides in the asteroid belt between Mars and Pluto. While its astrological significance is less commonly referenced than Black Moon Lilith, some astrologers associate it with themes of independence, mystery, and defiance.

Fixed Star Lilith (Algol)
Algol is the fixed star that’s associated with Medusa. Fixed stars are called such as they move rather slowly, that is, 1 degree every 72 years.

Algol, the demon star, was referred to as Lilith by the Hebrews per the book Star Names by Richard H. Allen (I learnt about this from Kelley Hunter)

For our analysis we will use True Black Moon Lilith (h13) , Dark Moon Lilith (h58), asteroid Lilith (1181) & the fixed star Algol.

We'll also see in a few of these cases - how Lilith shows up prominently not only via astrology but also quite literally - as one of her mythological forms, as an owl, serpent.

Similar to her appearance as an eagle leaving a mark on my window.

LILITH THROUGH THE LENS OF ASTROLOGY, TAROT & NEUROSCIENCE

In astrology, there are 12 houses  mapped out much like a pie chart with 12 divisions and each division represents a house. In turn, each house represents an area of life that might be relevant to us. For eg. the first house represents the self, the second house your assets etc.

Of relevance to this discussion is the 12th House since it is the house of the devil. And co incidentally (or perhaps by divine design), the 12th house also happens to be the house of Angels.

The 12th house indeed is the most mystical & mysterious of all houses. In fact, it is much like a portal and among other things stands for transcendental experiences, the other realms (angels & demons), dreams etc.

We all have a 12th house in our birth chart and we all have access to other realms. So what determines whether a person’s experience of the other realm will consist of angels or demons?

Of course it depends on the planets, the sign etc. of the 12th house itself. BUT it also depends on the house opposite houses to it being that in astrology  opposite houses are deeply connected and influence each other.

And the house opposite to the 12th house, is the 6th house.

The 6th house is concerned with very practical matters like your work, daily routine, the body, service etc.

Of relevance to our discussion here is the 6th House’s association with the body.

And that’s because our experience of the other side through the portal of the 12th house - whether it’s positive (angels) or negative (demons), to a large extent depends on our body.

And by that I don’t just mean our physical health, diet, exercise etc. All of this, yes or sure, but more importantly our nervous system.

In fact, arguably a healthy nervous system is the most important factor that contributes to our overall health & well being.

A healthy nervous system implies:
- a body or physiology that has healed itself from traumas
- a body that has freed itself from fight/flight/freeze response to a large extent
- a body that is emotionally regulated and alive with lifeforce.

A dysregulated nervous system implies a body that is governed by fight, flight & freeze.

And neuroscience is showing us that these energies are literally stored in our organs, joints, diaphragms etc.

In short, the more we’ve healed our 6th house by healing our traumas, the more our experience of the 12th house will be one of divinity, angels, spiritual guidance, mystical dreams etc.

And vice versa ie. the more trauma & emotional blockages we carry in our body, the more our experience will be that of obsession, addictions, anxiety, depression, self destructive behaviors - these aren’t the symptoms of trauma AND also the effects of being under the influence of “devilish forces”.

Of course, please know that this is an over simplification and it’s not so black or white. For example, there are those who are so intuitive or psychic and yet carry a lot trauma.

But in general, a person with a healthy nervous system will be able to connect to the other side in a more constructive way.

TAROT

We just discussed that in astrology the 6th house relates to the body.

In fact, there seems to be a close association between the number 6 & the human body.

Maybe it’s to do with the fact that our body is carbon based and the carbon atom has 6 protons, 6 neutrons, and 6 electrons.

In the Tarot cards too, the number 6 is of significance in the major arcana cards. Look at the Lovers & The Devil Card (both add up to 6, 1+5=6).

Both have similarities -

In the Lovers card the two humans feel a sense of freedom in their body (6th house astrology) and they have an angel (Archangel Gabriel) in the background (and angels belong to 12th house astrology)

In the Devil card, the two humans are chained, in fear, in stress and they have the Devil looming large in the background (12th house).

In other words, the amount of trauma or survival energies (fight, flight, freeze) we hold in our bodies will determine the quality of connection with the other world.

In the Lovers card, we see two humans in delightfully healthy (shame free) bodies surrounded by beauty. And in the background there’s the angelic presence of Archangel Gabriel.

That’s their experience of the 12th house.

On the contrary, The Devil card also has two stark naked humans that are in misery. And looming large in the background is the devil.

THE 6th ZODIAC SIGN
We’ve discussed the 6th house in astrology, the tarot major arcana cards with the number 6 and now let’s take a look at the 6th zodiac sign in astrology - VIRGO.

The zodiac sign of Virgo is said to have attributes like being critical, organized, precise etc. These in and of themselves are positives, but it’d be much more profound to explore what might be happening internally as far as the Virgo archetype is concerned that would cause it to seek perfectionism, an eye for detail & so on.

Perhaps it has something to do with the proverbial concept of immaculate conception associated with the sign of Virgo?

Immaculate within, so immaculate without.

Virgo The Virgin & Immaculate Conception
Under the patriarchy, the virgin (associated with Virgo) has taken on the connotation of being a puritanical, subservient, character who is often relegated playing a behind the scenes role.

But tales from antiquity in the pre patriarchal era, show us that being a virgin was a sign of a powerful woman who had perfected the art & technology of parthenogenesis ie. the ability to call in and merge with divine light to create new life after years if not lifetimes of rigorous training & preparation.

In this context it’s the womb that is of primary importance since that’s what ultimately absorbs the light and becomes the carrier of new life.

A virgin was emblematic of a self sufficient womb capable of immaculate conception often as an act of service for the greater good.

I believe the traits that Virgo has come to be associated ie detail oriented, precise etc. are external manifestations of a highly immaculate, organized and coherent inner self.

The Virgo glyph pointing inwards gives a sense of self sufficiency and wholeness.
Well, what does this have to do with our discussion?

In short, a womb that is immaculate, perfect & coherent will have the ability to bring to life a whole, divine being.

Much like the archetypes of Mother Mary & Jesus.

And a womb that could not create an ideal environment (in our context, due to Lilith since she was associated with affecting pregnant mothers, infants & children) might bring in a being that’s prone to a dysregulated nervous system.

And when I say due to Lilith - I don’t mean it’s literally a demon that shows up but more along the lines that a difficult Lilith astrological placement might bring about lifeforce robbing situations & circumstances that cause a dysregulated nervous system.

In other words, a difficult Lilith astrological placement might bring in either a being that’s already traumatized or prone to trauma in the early years.

And in this regard, Lilith would be the shadow aspect of the Virgin Mary archetype which is now seeking healing & integration.

NEUROSCIENCE

So far we’ve seen that as per both, astrology & tarot, the experience of other realms to an extent depends on one’s nervous system.

A healthy nervous system is likely to have easier access to angelic realms compared to those affected by trauma.

Through the lens of neuroscience, lets consider some causes & effects of trauma.

CAUSES
Stressful events like domestic violence, natural disasters, or substance misuse can cause the mother's body to release cortisol, a stress hormone which can affect the fetus.

Mothers who have experienced childhood trauma can pass this memory down to their unborn child.

Chaotic or unpredictable lifestyle factors can cause stress for the mother, which can lead to trauma for the fetus

Physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, witnessing violence, parental stress, early separation or loss

EFFECTS
Mental health: Depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or other mental health disorders
Sleep problems: Nightmares or difficulty falling or staying asleep
Lack of trust, interpersonal challenges, or self-destructive behaviors
Low self esteem

THE MYTHOLOGY

Lilith in Mythology: A Figure of Power and Defiance

Lilith is an ancient goddess and archetype that pre dates the written word.

One of Lilith’s earliest recorded accounts appears in an ancient Sumerian epic called “Gilgamesh and the Huluppu tree” which was written about 4000 years ago, in 2000 BCE.

In “Gilgamesh and the Huluppu Tree” the Goddess Inanna, ruler of heaven and earth, planted a sacred Huluppu tree, hoping to use it to craft a divine throne and bed.

However, as the tree grew, it became home to three mysterious creatures:

- A serpent at its roots, connecting the tree to the underworld
- A bird in its branches, linking the tree to the heavens and..
- Lilith, who occupied the middle of the tree

Unable to rid herself of these intruders, Inanna called upon Gilgamesh, who drove them away—banishing Lilith to barren lands & the dessert.

In the above as well as in many other accounts, Lilith is often associated with serpents as well as large birds such as owls, eagles & vultures.

Lilith in Jewish Tradition: Adam’s First Wife

The myth of Lilith as Adam's first wife that’s gotten much traction in recent years in the wake of the rise of the divine feminine and concomitant women’s rights movement.

The myth of Lilith as Adam's first wife goes back to the medieval period & emerged as an extension of the Garden of Eden story found in the Genesis.

In this version, God creates Lilith from the same “dust of the Earth” as Adam and was therefore his equal.

Lilith rejects Adam's demand to be subservient, insisting they were created as equals & flees the Garden of Eden to seek her own freedom.

According to some legends, angels were sent to bring her back, but she refused saying:
“Leave me! I was created only to cause sickness to infants”

Her defiance led to her demonization as it is said that Lilith became the consort of the devil known as Samael & gave birth to hundreds of demon off springs.

However, over the centuries, Lilith’s image transformed. Once feared as a night-demon, she has since been reinterpreted as a symbol of female empowerment, independence, and rebellion against patriarchal oppression.

Today, she represents themes of autonomy, sexual liberation, and the rejection of imposed limitations.

BUT let’s back up a little & talk a bit about Lilith the baby stealer as this aspect of her mythology pre dates the emergence of Lilith as the first wife of Adam.

Lilith The Baby Stealer

In Jewish folklore and literature, Lilith is infamous for preying on infants,  young children, pregnant women, and new mothers.

Some studies suggest that in Jewish folklore, she was used as a scapegoat to explain why bad things happen to babies because the prevailing paradigm of "bad things happen to those who sin" didn't quite explain why bad things such as sickness, and even death, happen to infants (who of course were not capable of committing a sin).

But could there be more to the story?

Could this side of her be more than just figment of imagination emanating from fearful & superstitious cultures of the past.

Could the mythology of Lilith be rooted in her astrology?

The ancients knew way more about the stars than we think they do & ancient texts such as the Zohar do draw a connection between Lilith & the moon.

By holding Lilith the demon responsible for death/illness of infants & children, could the ancients, knowingly or unknowingly, have been tracking the possible malefic effects of celestial Lilith on infants & children?

Could the “child stealing” Lilith be a metaphor “lifeforce robbing” trauma causing events orchestrated by difficult Lilith placements in the birth chart.

Just as a challenging Saturn placement in a birth chart is associated with tough life lessons and karmic hardships, could difficult Lilith placements serve as indicators of a difficult infancy, childhood or even early childhood trauma?

For example, in some stories Lilith was seen as the force responsible for still born babies. And now with our modern research we know that stillbirths can sometimes be linked to in utero trauma.

Let’s take a look at the birth charts of some well-known personalities and see if there might be linkages between challenging Lilith placements and early childhood trauma, that is, trauma that occurs in utero and till the age of about 7.

Of course, we are not privy to the quality of childhood & upbringing of even really well known figures (let alone information pertaining while in utero).

But early childhood trauma does tend to have life long effects such as mental health conditions, self destructive behavior, ADHD etc.

So essentially, we’ll be looking for linkages between challenging Lilith placements and the above mentioned conditions.

Just like a challenging Saturn placement can manifest in a myriad of ways, a challenging Lilith placement assuming it’s associated with early childhood trauma can show up in many ways.

Disclaimer
Before we discuss birth charts to see possible connections between Lilith & mental health conditions a trigger warning is warranted as some of the cases we talk about had deep emotional and mental anguish.

Also, astrology is a highly complex subject & the presence or absence of Lilith is in no way the only factor that might be responsible for the presence or absence of childhood trauma and its concomitant symptoms.

This is in no way a rigorous analysis either astrologically and nor am I a trauma expert by any stretch.

But as someone who’s been on the healing path & learning about the nervous system, trauma etc. for close to a decade, my intention is to bring more attention to childhood trauma, it’s effects and more importantly to emphasize that now more than ever healing is possible.

LILITH IN THE BIRTH CHART AND POSSIBLE IMPLICATIONS

In discussing the birth charts & astrology in the following section, we'll be using:

  • Whole Signs house system
  • True Black Moon Lilith (h13), Dark Moon Lilith, Asteroid Lilith & Fixed Star Lilith (Algol)
  • There isn’t much consensus amongst astrologers about the types of aspects or the orbs especially when it comes to asteroids & fixed stars, I have considered all hard aspects (conjunctions, squares, oppositions).
  • In any case, as we will see in the charts below, there’s multiple aspects to Lilith.

SYLIVIA PLATH

LILITH CONNECTION
Strong Lilith presence in her chart
Clinical depression, took her own life (possible effect of early childhood trauma)
Vivid, visceral description of her despair (as if a great muscular owl were sitting on my chest, its talons clenching & constricting my heart) & Lilith’s association with the owl

Asteroid Lilith & Algol square his mars (ruler of 12th house)
Da Vinci had a very vivid & mysterious dream about a kite/vulture (Lilith’s connection with birds).
He was born out of wedlock and it’s believed that his biological mother was an orphaned teen. His father initially abandoned him but took custody of Leonardo shortly after his birth (childhood trauma)
Despite being the so accomplished, felt like a failure (a symptom of childhood trauma - learn to blame yourself for environment failure)
Much of his work was abandoned after a point, possible ADHD & on the spectrum (possible symptoms of early trauma)

Curiously, exactly a year before Van Gogh the artist that we know about, his mother had given birth to a stillborn baby (Lilith). The baby had also been named Van Gogh
Van Gogh would often have episodes of depression and anxiety (possible symptoms of childhood trauma)
Rage & helplessness - when he hurt himself and sadly decided to take his own life because he felt like despair at not being able to make it as an artist (possible symptoms of childhood trauma)
Healing - now he is one of the most famous artists of all times

RECAP

The mythology of Lilith as a child stealer could be linked to the astrology of Lilith in that challenging astrological placements could bring about difficult, lifeforce robbing events & circumstances that cause trauma.

A good, happy & healthy early childhood result in good connection with primary care givers which forms the basis for a healthy nervous system, a healthy body, a healthy 6th house & therefore a healthy 12th house which results in an easier connection with angels, higher self, spirit etc.

On the other hand..

A traumatic infancy or early childhood trauma due to lack of care or connection (intentional or unintentional) with primary care givers might result in a dysregulated nervous system & therefore a weak body or weak 6th house which results in a weak 12th house.

This in turn implies a connection with other side through the filter of fear & causes obsessions, addictions, shame, despair, anxiety ie. everything the devil stands for

CONCLUSION & RESOURCES FOR HEALING

To wrap up, we saw in the above cases, Lilith with a strong presence in the birth chart and also the occurrence of mental health conditions likely caused by early childhood trauma.

Whether this is a coincidence or a case of correlation (instead of causation) - that’s something to explore further.

But yes, a deeper & more thorough exploration is certainly warranted.
